Central Ohio congressman Jim Jordan used much of his speech at the Republican National Convention on Monday night to denounce Democratic responses to the coronavirus.
“Democrats won’t let you go to church but they’ll let you protest," Jordan said. "Democrats won’t let you go to work, but they’ll let you riot. And Democrats won’t let you go to school, but they’ll let you go loot. President Trump has taken on each of their crazy ideas."
No Democratic lawmakers have supported the rioting or looting that happened during some protests against racism and police violence earlier this summer.
Democrats also defend the temporary closure of schools and the recommendation that churches forgo in-person services to limit the spread of coronavirus.
Jordan emphasized Trump's efforts on the economy, including the 2017 Republican tax law and the USMCA trade deal. He also praised the president for low unemployment - although those numbers skyrocketed this spring because of the pandemic.
Jordan also praised President Trump for talking to Jordan's brother after his son died in a car crash two years ago.
“The next five minutes, family and friends sat in complete silence as the President of the United States took time to talk to a dad who was hurting," Jordan recalled. "That is the president that I've gotten to know the last four years."
Jordan is the only Ohioan scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention.
