Mill Run Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living in Hilliard says 10 people, including eight employees and two residents, have tested positive COVID-19. The facility is now considered a hotspot for the novel coronavirus.

Spokesman Ryan Stubenrauch says the facility has been preparing for cases since late February. The nursing home has ordered additional protective personal equipment and is offering assisted living apartments to employees who want to minimize travel by not going home every day.

“We have an isolated and dedicated wing for any residents who’ve either tested positive or may have come in contact with an infected person,” Stubenrauch says.

Those working in the isolation wing are also wearing protective gowns.

“Every one of our workers, from health workers to food service folks, are all wearing full face shields and face masks whenever they’re interacting with any residents, whether or not they’re in the isolation wing,” Stubenrauch says.

Everyone at the facility with COVID-19 is expected to make a full recovery. One employee who tested positive for the novel coronavirus has fully recovered and is back to work.

Stubenrauch expects more positive cases in the near future.

“We’re also taking the temperatures of every one of our residents every four hours, and we’re giving them a respiratory assessment several times each day,” Stubenrauch says.

The nursing home is making daily phone calls to the family members of residents to update them on their status. It's also offering a $1,500 bonus to full-time workers, and $750 to part-time employees.
