Exotic Cat Killed By Fairfield County Deputy

A Serval cat was shot and killed by a Fairfield County Deputy on Sunday.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy shot and killed a large exotic cat Sunday afternoon.A Facebook post by the sheriff’s office said the animal had a black collar and was most likely a pet. The cat reportedly attacked a dog before being spotted and shot near the Jefferson Farms subdivision of off Laurelwood Drive in Violet Township.

Ohio Department of Natural Resources officials identified the animal as a Serval cat, a species native to Africa.

The animal’s owner was not immediately known.
