Columbus Police have identified an officer who shot a suspect Wednesday night on the city's Southeast side. The man, 18-year-old Tasjon Tyreek Osbourne, later died at a hospital.

Sgt. Lee Hurst was on bicycle patrol near Gallant Drive and Kings Realm Avenue when he encountered gunfire around 9 p.m.

Police say Hurt subsequently shot Osbourne, who was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital, where he died. Authorities say a gun was recovered at the scene.

Hurst is a 13-year veteran with the Division.
