Ohio State University is seeking approval for a multimillion-dollar health sciences center during this week's Board of Trustees meeting.
The proposed Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center would include classrooms with virtual reality, surgical practice labs, and a 6,000-square foot informal learning space. The new building is slated to be located on the western side of 11th and Neil Avenues next to Hamilton Hall.
Ohio State hopes the facility will foster collaboration as part of its Framework 2.0 plan to bring more technological innovation to campus.
That plan also includes a separate Health Sciences Faculty Office and Optometry Clinic is now under construction now across the street from the proposed new building. The university expects that building to open next year.
If the board approves the project details Friday, Ohio State expects construction to start in October. The university hopes to to complete the center by 2023.
