A Jordanian citizen who was living in Dayton has been sentenced for trying to join the Islamic State group.
Laith Waleed Alebbini, 28, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, and 25 years of probation, though he may be deported after his prison term.
He was arrested in 2017 at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. Prosecutors say he was trying to fly to Turkey or Jordan to join with Islamic State fighters in Syria.
Alebbini was charged with conspiring and attempting to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization.
Federal authorities say Alebbini wanted to become a suicide bomber. But Alebbini told a judge he never "thought of harming the American people."
