Columbus Police have released the body camera videos of a confrontation on the city's South Side last week, where an officer punched a man.

The videos, which run nearly 50 minutes, show several officers on the scene in the 900 block of Heyl Avenue. They had responded to a shooting in the area, and both police cruiser and body cameras captured the incident. (The confrontation starts around the 23:20 mark in the body camera video below.)

The video shows a woman and her children walking across the street toward a house where police were investigating reports of gun shots. A man approached an officer who was guarding the house, as officers shout at him to get back. The man remains standing, and another officer with a shotgun comes up and pushes the man.

After the man turns to face the second officer, the officer punches him in the neck. Another officer runs over and tackles the man to the ground. One bystander shouts "he did nothing" while the man is handcuffed on the ground.

An officer can be heard saying, "I don't know what makes you think it would be a good idea to square off with an officer."

Two men were arrested, along with the man who was punched. The names of the involved officers have not yet been released.

Columbus Police say they are continuing an investigation and will have no further comment at this time.

The body camera footage was released after a bystander's video of the Friday evening incident was posted on social media.
