The drive from The Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center to downtown Columbus just got harder.

The ramp from 12th Avenue and Cannon Drive to State Route 315 South closed Monday and remains closed until mid-November for construction. That follows the May closure of the ramp from 315 North to Medical Center Drive.

Monday also brought the closure of Cannon Drive between 12th and Herrick Drive. That portion of Cannon will stay closed until 2019.

The closures are part of Ohio State’s “Framework 2.0,” which calls for the straightening and elevating of Cannon to allow for future growth at the university and the medical center.

Last summer, the first phase of the project permanently closed two parking lots on Cannon. That meant the loss of about 2,100 parking spots.

Ohio State officials say Framework 2.0 will also create 12 acres of developable land, help prevent future flooding, create a north-south connection between King and Lane Avenues, and enhance green space in the Olentangy River cooridor.
