The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office says a grand jury declined to indict three Columbus police officers involved in the shooting death of a murder suspect last year.
Police say the shooting last September came when SWAT officers Stephen Galiffo, Anthony Rogers and James Sanford were looking for murder suspect Jacquarius Robinson on the far east side.
Police says they saw Robinson exit a home while putting a gun in his front sweatshirt pocket. Police say officers approached him, a chase ensued, and officers killed Robinson as he raised his weapon toward them in a backyard.
Police say ballistics testing determined Robinson’s weapon was the same one used to kill Damion Wade earlier that same day.
By law, all fatal police-involved shootings go to a grand jury, and the grand jury proceedings are kept secret. In Ron O'Brien's 20 years as county prosecutor, no officer has been indicted for shooting a civilian.
