Abercrombie Cuts 150 Corporate Positions

Embattled retail company Abercrombie & Fitch says it's eliminated nearly 150 positions at its New Albany headquarters.

A statement released Wednesday night said the corporate-level positions were cut to help restructure for the current retail environment.

The New Albany headquarters employs about 2,000 people.

The company that for years marketed itself as a pretty teen outfitter has been desperately trying to re-brand itself after former CEO Michael Jefferies alienated many shoppers by saying they hire good-looking employees to help attract good-looking shoppers.

Jefferies also once said some people don’t belong in Abercrombie clothes.

The company has since abandoned shirtless male models and dimly-lit stores in favor of baggier clothing and more-inclusive branding.

Abercrombie's profits fell 81 percent in the third quarter of last year.
