Leaders of nearly half of Ohio’s county Republican parties are pushing members of a party committee to oust Matt Borges from his statewide leadership post.
The chairs of 38 of Ohio’s county Republican parties this morning signed a letter urging members of the party’s Central Committee to back Stark County GOP chair Jane Timken in her quest to lead Ohio’s Republican party.
Timken has the endorsement of the nation’s most powerful Republican, Donald Trump. The president-elect also had a highly-publicized beef with the current Ohio GOP chair Borges after Borges said he wouldn’t punish Republicans who decided to not endorse Trump during the campaign.
The letter supporting Timken says “the state chairman ought to be absolutely unwavering in their support of all Republican nominees, at every level.” The letter says Borges’ stance risks putting the Ohio GOP at odds with the new Trump administration.
The 66 members of the Central Committee make the leadership vote on Friday.
