A 19-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the robbery that preceded the fatal police shooting of a 13-year-old boy last summer.
Demetrius Braxton pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felony robbery charge related to an armed robbery on the Near East Side on September 14. That robbery received widespread media coverage because the foot chase ended with police shooting 13-year-old Tyre King.
Police say King pulled a realistic-looking BB gun from his waistband at the end of a foot chase. Braxton has said King may have been trying to throw the gun when he was shot.
Police defended the shooting, but prosecutors have so far declined to hand the case to an independent prosecutor.
For his role in the robbery, Braxton was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison after agreeing to testify against others reportedly involved in the robbery.
