Trump-Kasich Tension On RNC's First Day

The opening day of the Republican National Convention was marked by comments from a top Donald Trump official against former presidential candidate John Kasich, who’s also the governor of the state hosting the convention. But the Ohio delegation was hearing only a message of unity.

Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton spoke to the Ohio delegation at breakfast. Cotton didn’t mention Trump, but told reporters before his speech that he’s confident the party will come together.

“I think we’re going to come out of the convention not just united, but actually growing the party – bringing in a lot of the independents, the Democrats who realize that the Obama-Clinton agenda has failed them,” Cotton says.

Trump campaign spokesman Paul Manafort told several news outlets Kasich was – quote – embarrassing his state for not endorsing Trump. Ohio Republican Party chair Matt Borges then tweeted out that Manafort “…doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
