It was not in the cards for Franklin County democratic incumbents in yesterday’s primary. A long-time county commissioner lost her seat as a top county official.
With the backing of the Franklin County Democratic Party, State Representative Kevin Boyce pushed out Commissioner Paula Brooks. Boyce took about 58 percent of the vote at last look.
Former Ohio treasurer and Columbus City Council member, Boyce said the focus now turns to November when he faces Republic Terry Boyd. Boyce said the county’s growth will be a top issue.
“Whether it’s how the county plays a role with economic development and workforce development or how we play a role in our broader community," he said.
The county Democratic Party passed over three incumbents, this year, including Brooks. Last year, she backed Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther’s opponent Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott.
Brooks first was elected to the commission in 2004. Her campaign did not respond to repeated requests for an interview.
