The State Highway Patrol reports an inmate beaten to death at a state prison in southwest Ohio was struck multiple times in the head with a concrete block.

A patrol report says 26-year-old Luther Wade was beaten Tuesday afternoon at Lebanon Correctional Institution just outside the city of Lebanon. The Warren County Coroner's Officer says Wade was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The report says another inmate is considered a "person of interest" in the Springfield man's slaying. No charges were immediately filed and the other inmate wasn't immediately identified.

Warren County coroner's investigator Doyle Burke says Wade's death resulted from multiple blunt force trauma.

Prison records show Wade was serving 10 years on an aggravated burglary conviction.

Reports didn't indicate a motive in the slaying.
