'Two Zachs' TV Ad Meant To Clear Up Voter Confusion

Klein and Scott campaign websites
A TV ad tries to differentiate between the two "Zachs" on this year's ballot, in Columbus. Zach Klein (L) seeks reelection to Columbus City Council, and Zach Scott (r) wants to be the first new mayor in 15 years.

There are a couple of Zachs on this year’s Columbus ballot. Zach Scott is running for mayor. Zach Klein is running for city council. There seems to be some confusion about who’s running for what. A new TV ad tries to clarify things.

In Zach Klein’s ad he stands alongside mayoral candidate Andrew Ginther and outgoing mayor Michael Coleman.

“There are two Zachs running for office, but only one is running with me to build a stronger Columbus. Don’t be confused, council member Zach Klein is not sheriff Zach Scott," the ad noted.

Klein’s campaign manager Brendan Kelley admits Ginther’s negative ads against Zach Scott may be causing a mix up.

“We have seen some confusion among voters between Zach Klein and the other Zach," Kelley said.

Klein likely would be city council president if he wins reelection and Ginther is elected mayor.

Ginther’s campaign manager Bryan Clark said there’s some concern the confusion could benefit the rival Scott.

“I don’t think it’s likely," he said. "But it’s always something you worry about when you have this high profile of an election.”
