American Electric Power has confirmed more than 36,000 customers on the city's north side are without power this afternoon.
An AEP spokesman says a falling tree took out power lines to the Karl Road substation. He says crews already have some circuits back on line. All of the work is expected to be complete by 5 PM.
AEP advises customers to turn off air conditioning units and other major appliances before power is resumed.
