A homebuilding rebound in much of the United States is happening in Ohio as well.

The Commerce Department says U.S. homebuilders ramped up construction in April to the fastest pace in seven-and-a-half years. An official with the Ohio Home Builders Association says that trend is occurring in parts of Ohio as well.

Most of our members are now busier than they've been in the last six or seven years, said Vince Squillace the executive vice president for the Ohio Home Builders Association.

Squillace said demand for new housing by young professionals in Columbus' city center is far outpacing the rate in northern Ohio.

It's a very vibrant home construction in the Columbus area right now," he said. "That has been the shining star in terms of Ohio in terms of housing starts."

Squillace says the lack of skilled construction labor is hampering the pace of some builders.
