A study says Port Columbus International Airport might not be able to handle the growing number of travelers flying to and from there over the next 15 years, and officials have developed a $1.3 billion plan to make sure that doesn't happen.
The study was presented to the Columbus Regional Airport Authority this week. It says the number of passengers would grow at an average pace of 1.8 percent per year. And by 2032, annual passengers could surpass 8 million, putting a strain on the terminal.
Preliminary plans call for a larger terminal, a 5,400-space parking garage and a rental-car facility. The new terminal is expected to cost $603 million.
Authorities say the plan is in its early stages and provides a roadmap for renovations.
