Man Shot By Officers Dies After Daylong Standoff In Mansfield

Mansfield Division of Police

An Ohio man who police say repeatedly fired shots at officers from a Mansfield home during a 26-hour standoff has died after being shot during the exchange.

Richland County Coroner Stewart Ryckman confirmed 58-year-old David Parker died Tuesday after he was shot by officers. Ryckman said no other details on Parker's death were immediately available.

Mansfield Law Director John Spon says Parker fired at officers just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, prompting law enforcement to fire back.

The confrontation began Monday morning when a gas utility worker called 911 after the resident came to the door with an assault rifle.

Parker reportedly fired at officers several times Monday. Authorities turned a fire hose on the home twice to try to flush Parker out.

Police haven't commented about possible motives.
