Columbus Adds 'Sister City' In West Africa

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman says he wants to build closer trade and cultural ties to Africa. During his state of the city speech, Coleman announced Columbus will form a 'Sister City partnership with Accra, Ghana. "Because it's stable, it's a democracy, Ghana's a democracy, and it's among the top destinations, the number one destination of those who live in Columbus going to the continent of Africa." says Coleman. Coleman made the announcement during his State of the City address. "And the entire immigrant community and the new American community from Africa is supporting that and we've got to make sure we're building that relationship in Africa." Sister Cities is a non partisan, non-profit, organization formed during the height of the Cold War to promote cultural, educationa and trade ties between U-S and foreign cities. Columbus also has sister Cities in Spain, Taiwan, India and Denmark.
