Obama to Honor Westerville Soldier at State of the Union

A wounded army sergeant from Westerville will be a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama for tomorrow night’s State of the Union Address. Jason Gibson was wounded in Afghanistan and met President Obama at Water Reed hospital in 2012. The White House says after the visit Gibson wrote a letter thanking the president and stressing that there is life after a traumatic event. Despite losing both legs and being unable to use prosthetics Gibson took up surfing and skiing and competed in marathons using a hand cycle. Gibson also earned a pilot's license. In Westerville, a non-profit group helped build Gibson and his wife Kara a house specially designed for their needs. The couple in November celebrated the birth of their first child - a baby girl, Quinn Leona.
