Ohio AG Addresses Police Training Advisory Group

Police officers and ministers are joining mental health, probation and prosecutor's office representatives on a new Ohio panel to study possible updates to police training. Attorney General Mike DeWine created the 16-member panel in response to issues raised in the wake of several recent police shootings nationally and protests over those shootings. DeWine planned to address the group at a meeting Thursday in Columbus. In announcing the task force last week, DeWine said it will look at several issues, including whether officers are getting enough basic and advanced training, using the skills they acquire and know how to deal with individuals with mental illness. DeWine says proper training is important for police and the residents they serve.
