Report: More Reforms Needed In Lucasville Prison

A prisons inspection committee says work still needs to be done at one of the state's toughest lock-ups, where inmates continue to report concerns about racism and excessive use of force. The Correctional Institution Inspection Committee says a follow-up review of the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville found that inmates' concerns are consistent with those expressed in prior years. The report released last week says the prison continues to handle the task for managing some of the state's most violent inmates and its maximum security mentally ill population. The report says warden Donald Morgan has brought new ideas and creative approaches to improving the prison. The 66-page report also says quality of life issues such as conditions on units and health care have improved in recent years.
