Commission Issues No Air Quality Alerts in 2014

It's been 20 years since the air in Central Ohio has been cleaner than it is today. The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission announced today it's been twenty years since the area recorded zero air quality alerts. MORPCE's Air Quality Program Coordinator Evelyn Ebert says last year there were only two alerts; this year there were none. Alternatives to driving can be credited in part for the improvement, she said. "There are lots of options in Central Ohio for reducing the amount of time we spend driving alone in a vehicle. Transit, car-pooling, biking, walking. And we have a lot of partners in the community that make those things possible like COTA and COGO." Despite the improvement, Central Ohio still does not comply with the federal government's clean air standards, Ebert said.
