It look a 59 point win in the Big Ten championship game and a little luck with the selection committee, but Ohio State will be among the four teams in the first college football playoff. The College Football Playoff selection committee chose OSU over Texas Christian University, which sat at number 3 in the previous week's ratings. Even a 55-3 rout of Iowa State on Saturday wasn't enough to keep TCU in the top four. OSU head coach Urban Meyer says he got the news Sunday afternoon while watching ESPN with athletic director Gene Smith. "We're a young program, a team that if you would told me (we would make the playoff) back in August, I would have 'Not yet, Maybe next year.'" OSU plays Alabama in one of two semifinals on New Years Day. The two winners play for the national title a week later.
