Kasich Announces New Task Force On Community-Police Relations

Ohio Governor John Kasich is outlining the goals he wants to achieve from a new task force on community-police relations. Kasich and several other state leaders are forming the task force to listen to Ohio's communities, research best practices and make recommendations to state and local policy makers on improving relations between police and neighborhoods. Other elected leaders attending the news conference include Attorney General Mike Dewine, State Senator Nina Turner, and State Representatives Sandra Williams and Alicia Reece. Kasich's announcement follows results from a year-long report by the U.S. Justice Department calling for reforms within the Cleveland Police Department including a commitment to community policing. The DOJ spent 18 months investigating use of force policies in Cleveland after a series of well-publicized incidents, including the killing of two unarmed civilians in a hail of police gunfire after a high-speed chase.
