Central Ohio Group Says Immigrant Reform Not Big Enough

Officials estimate there are 30 to 40 thousand undocumented immigrants in Central Ohio. Many of those people could be spared deportation under the changes President Obama announced last night. Ruben Castilla Hererra of the Central Ohio Workers Center says the President's Executive Order changing the country's immigration policy is a start. "I generally see it as kind of a band-aid to the issue but right now we need a band-aid. And so that's where we're at. And so I think it's welcome by most people. First thing I would say is 'Thank You,'but it's not big enough," Herrera said The community organizer also says he thinks many undocumented workers will welcome the chance to apply for a work permit. "Really, that's the reason people have come, Right? I don't think people are going to be reluctant of it. People want work permits," Herrera emphasized. Herrera says the Central Ohio Workers Center will continue to help undocumented workers sort through the paperwork necessary to stay in the country legally.
