Ohio Lawmaker Indicted On Burglary, Theft Charges

A newly-elected state lawmaker has been indicted on charges alleging he took antiques and other items from an Ohio home. An Ottawa County grand jury on Wednesday indicted Republican Rep. Steven Kraus, who defeated Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern in the Nov. 4 election. A police report alleges the 55-year-old Kraus, of Huron, took antiques, a shotgun and musical instruments from a home in Port Clinton earlier this year. The indictment includes felony charges of burglary, breaking and entering and theft. Police say witnesses took photos of Kraus taking the items from the home. Kraus' attorney has said the lawmaker, who is an auctioneer, admitted to taking the items, but said a real estate agent selling the home asked Kraus to take them and inventory them for auction.
