The calendar says winter is still a month away, but Central Ohio is dealing with its first winter storm of the season. About two inches of snow has accumulated in Columbus. Areas north of the city saw deeper accumulations. Forecasters say Columbus will get about three inches before its over, with areas north of the city getting up to five inches. The snow forced several Central Ohio school districts first to delay opening before officials decided to cancel classes for the day. Police report several accidents on Columbus area roadways and commute times doubled for drivers. American Electric Power reports nearly 9,200 customers lost power because of the heavy wet snow.
