Sandy Hook Mom Urges Vigilance

The mother of a 6-year old boy killed at Sandy Hook Elementary school wants parents and children to be more vigilant when it comes to possible threats. Nicole Hockley's six year old son, Dylan was killed in 2012, when a gunman opened fire on the Connecticut school. Since then, Hockley and other parents push prevention through their organization "Sandy Hook Promise." Hockley says in the majority of school shootings, someone knew something beforehand. "In four out of five school shootings, the shooter has told someone of their plans ahead of time. If just one of those people had just said something. If just someone had spoken to a teacher or a parent or law enforcement, how many lives could be saved," Hockley said. Hockley is in Columbus Thursday to kick off Promise Day, a program that encourages adults to take one action a month to protect children against gun violence. Hockley is scheduled to speak at St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church at 59 East Mound Street in Columbus at 7.00 p.m.
