Mansfield Jury Orders Disgraced Booster To Pay $6.4 M In Damages

A jury in Mansfield has decided that a former trustee of a high school sports booster club should pay more than $6.4 million in damages for stealing from the club and other charities. The jury in Richland County on Tuesday ruled against Kendall Clemons, the remaining defendant in a lawsuit brought by the state Attorney General's Office related to the Mansfield Tyger All Sports Booster Club. A half dozen defendants had collectively agreed to repay more than $926,000 as the trial got under way. The jury found Clemons owed triple damages to five nonprofit groups that lost charitable bingo proceeds. Clemons and her husband had been sentenced to a year in prison each for misusing the money.
