New York Reacts To Deer Disease Case In Ohio

New York is tightening rules on hunters bringing in game from Ohio after a confirmed case of chronic wasting disease in a deer. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation says they are now prohibiting people from importing into the state certain parts of white-tailed deer, elk and moose taken in Ohio. The move comes after Ohio officials confirmed a case of the highly contagious disease in a white-tailed deer on a deer farm. The fatal disease attacks the brain of the infected animal. It hasn't been shown to infect humans. New York officials say hunters of white-tailed deer, elk or moose in Ohio and Pennsylvania must remove a specified list of parts from the animal before the carcass can be imported into New York.
