State Issues New Ebola Guidelines, Hospitals Respond

The Ohio Department of Health today issued new, stronger, recommended quarantine procedures in response to suspected Ebola cases. State epidemiologist Mary DiOrio said in a written statement that, “It has become clear that we cannot be too careful in efforts to contain the spread of this deadly disease.” At Ohio State’s medical center and other hospitals around the state, new Ebola procedures are being implemented. Dr. Andrew Thomas is Ohio State’s chief medical officer. “We’re still trying to walk the fine line between being prepared and being alarmist. Certainly having the knowledge that an individual having Ebola was in Ohio makes us probably more urgent in our preparation,” Thomas says. Dr. Thomas says the OSU medical center will continue to keep up with the latest science in dealing with Ebola.
