Bargaining Session Fails To Produce Deal In Reynoldsburg

The teacher strike in Reynoldsburg continues after negotiators for teachers and the school board failed to reach a new agreement. The two sides met yesterday in a marathon session that lasted some 11 hours. Teachers and board members been at odds over proposals to move to merit-based pay raises, and changes to teacher health care plans. Students continue to be taught by substitute teachers. Some students have likened learning from substitutes to "being babysat." The district purchased hundreds of new laptop computers as administrators increasingly rely on computers and online curricula to teach students. Mediation continued Tuesday in a lawsuit brought by a parent who wants all district schools closed during the teacher strike.
