A federal mediator will continue to lead salary and class-size negotiations between the Reynoldsburg School Board and the city's teachers. Both sides appear to have reached an impasse in contract negotiations. With a strike looming September 19, city schools spokeswoman Tricia Moore says the board will streamline the hiring for substitute teachers at its meeting today.
Moore says she expects that the school system will need substitutes for all 350 school teacher positions. Last month, the school board hired a Michigan firm to expedite the substitute teacher hiring process.
The school board is negotiating with the Reynoldsburg Education Association, the local teachers' union. One of the sticking points in the negotiations is the size of classes, Reynoldsburg Education Association spokeswoman Kathy Evans said.
