Ohio Democrats Hit Campaign Trail On Labor Day

Ohio Democrats have their work cut out for them as they try to rally support at Labor Day gatherings. Sometimes considered the unofficial beginning of the stretch drive to November general elections, Monday's holiday finds gubernatorial nominee Ed FitzGerald trying to regain his footing after a series of political missteps. FitzGerald plans to walk in a Cleveland Labor Day parade, then take part in Toledo's Labor Day Festival. Running mate Sharen Neuhardt will head to the annual AFL-CIO Labor Day picnic at Coney Island near Cincinnati. Republican Gov. John Kasich angered unions early in his term with since-repealed restrictions on public union bargaining. A state Republican spokesman says the outlook for Kasich and the party in November is very strong, but that Republicans aren't taking anything for granted.
