Retirement Community Reflects On Legionella Outbreak 1 Year Later

A year ago an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at a Central Ohio retirement community shook up residents, workers and their families. CEO of Methodist Elder Care Services that oversees the facility, Peg Carmany says they've taken steps to avoid future contamination. Last summer, Legionella bacteria were found in high quantities in both the water system and the cooling tower at Wesley Ridge retirement community in Reynoldsburg. That led to an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease among some residents and visitors. 6 residents died. And there were at least 39 confirmed cases of the disease.
