Family Of Walmart Shooting Victim To Meet With Fed. Prosecutor

The parents of a man fatally shot by police at an Ohio Wal-Mart will meet with a federal prosecutor to ask the U.S. Department of Justice to handle the shooting investigation and begin a civil rights probe. Family attorney Michael Wright says he and the parents of John Crawford III will meet Thursday with the U.S. attorney for Ohio's southern district. Demonstrators rallying outside Justice Department offices in Dayton and Columbus Wednesday delivered letters addressed to the U.S. attorney general that also seek a federal investigation. Police said Crawford was shot Aug. 5 in suburban Dayton after refusing to drop an air rifle. Crawford's family says he was holding the rifle while on his cellphone. The family wants federal investigators to determine whether race was a factor in the shooting.
