Columbus Woman Tested For Ebola Virus

Test results for a woman, 46, in Columbus exhibiting symptoms of Ebola came back negative, according to Columbus Public Health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted the test through the Ohio Department of Health. Columbus Public Health spokesman Jose Rodriguez said she recently traveled to a West African country where the death toll of the deadly virus is nearing 1,000. The woman, who was tested several days ago, was placed in quarantine. CPH reports she is "recovering in isolation at a local hospital and doing well." Rodriguez would not say at which area facility. Columbus Health Commissioner Dr. Teresa Long said "[the city] has the proper facilities to handle a case of Ebola if necessary." Rodriguez said had the tests confirmed Ebola, it’s possible the woman would have received "specialized treatment" at a hospital outside of Ohio. “The national cases, of course, two of them, have been flown to Emory for care," he said. "So it’s likely that a potential case would have been transferred to another facility based on CDC recommendations.â€? Rodriguez did not know the nature of the woman's visit to West Africa.
