Central Ohio Man Fighting Extradition On Murder Conviction

A Groveport man who is fighting extradition to Albania to face prison on a murder conviction says authorities have got the wrong guy. An attorney for 41-year-old Altin Hasani, who lives in the Columbus suburb of Groveport, is arguing that his client is not the same man being sought by Albanian authorities. In a federal court hearing Tuesday, Hasani's attorney called it a "sham proceeding." But federal prosecutor Dana Peters says the Albanian government is clear that Hasani is the correct suspect. The accusation surfaced after Hasani applied to become a U.S. citizen in 2011, and a records check showed an Albanian with that name was convicted of murder in absentia in 1999 and sentenced to 22 years in prison. The judge will rule later.
