400,000 Expected Downtown for Red, White and Boom

Planners expect 400-thousand people downtown Thursday night for the 34th annual Red, White and Boom Celebration. Coordinators call the downtown Columbus fireworks display one of the largest in the Midwest. Organizer Mike Collins of Promotions One said this year Red White and Boom will features something new. "We have skydivers this time. So at about 8:35 p.m, a skydiver with a 78-hundred square foot flag which actually has its own parachute will come down over the river bed. You'll see the flag. it'll be around Veterans' Memorial and it'll go south to the Whittier Peninsula where it lands," explained Collins. Collins said spectators need to be aware of construction closures along the Scioto River which will be off limits to boaters in the fireworks zone. The fireworks display begins at 10:00 p.m. and is expected to last twenty five minutes, Collins said.
