A.G. Certifies Gay Marriage Ballot Language

A proposed constitutional amendment to legalize gay marriage in Ohio has cleared a big legal hurdle. WOSU has confirmed the Ohio Attorney General’s Office today certified the summary language and the one-thousand signatures required to move the proposal along. It now moves on the Ohio Ballot Board, which will determine if the proposal is a single issue. If so, supporters can begin gathering signatures. "I don't believe that we'll be able to make the ballot for this year," said Ian James with Freedom to Marry Ohio, the main group behind the ballot effort. The ruling from Attorney General Mike DeWine comes on the same day a federal judge is expected to order the state to recognize out-of-state gay marriages.
