36 Years For Ex-Ohio Doctor In Pregnant Mom Death

An ex-Ohio doctor has been sentenced to more than 36 years in prison for raping and killing an expectant mom who died after receiving a fatal heroin overdose. Former emergency room doctor Ali Salim had faced up to 37 years in prison when he appeared in court Friday afternoon. A Delaware County judge handed down the sentence in the case involving a woman forced to turn to prostitution to support her two young children after a divorce. Assistant County Prosecutor Kyle Rohrer says victim Deanna Ballman died after answering a Craigslist ad offering $200. The 44-year-old Salim pleaded guilty in October to rape and involuntary manslaughter after he was accused of injecting Ballman with heroin. Rohrer says there's no evidence Ballman used drugs. The judge is calling her death the worst crime he's ever seen.
