Inmate Nearing Execution Found Hanging In Cell

Attorneys for a condemned inmate scheduled to be executed on Wednesday say they’re shocked the man was found Sunday hanging in his cell. Attorneys for Billy Slagle say they had no warning he might commit suicide. He was found in his cell Sunday morning at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution and pronounced dead an hour later. He’d been awaiting execution since being convicted in the 1988 stabbing of his Cleveland neighbor.
