Columbus economist Bill Lafayette says Central Ohio is doing well recovering from the Recession. LaFayette, who owns the firm Regionomics, says 919,000 people were working in Central Ohio last month. âWeâve actually gotten back all the employment that we lost in the Recession and then some," LaFayette says. "And the number of jobs in the region is also at a record high. Thatâs 963,000.â? LaFayette says local unemployment in May was 6-point-2 percent compared to 7-point-6 percent nationally. He says business services, health care, and leisure are leading the region in terms of employment gains.
