Two Central Ohio Youth Lockups Near The Top in Sexual Assaults

Two Central Ohio lockups for juveniles have some of the nation’s highest rates of sexual assault against inmates. Figures from the Justice Department show the Circleville Juvenile Correctional with a sexual assault rate of over 30 percent, second-highest in the nation. The Scioto Juvenile Correctional Facility in Delaware had the nation’s fifth higest rate of sexual assault: just under a quarter of all inmates there reported being the victim of sexual assault at least once. Another facility in Cleveland ranked 13th at just under 20 percent. That’s more than double the national average of locked-up youths who reported being victimized in the survey.
