Report: Borges Owes $500K In Back Taxes

A report says the candidate backed by elected officials to be the Ohio Republican Party's next chairman owes more than $500,000 in state and federal taxes. The Dayton Daily News reports Friday that Matthew Borges says he's on a payment plan for some of the taxes but disputes most of them. The report says that according to Franklin County court records Borges owes $493,624 in federal taxes and $98,397 in state taxes. Borges tells the paper that a 2007 federal tax lien for $354,262 and the $98,397 in state tax liens stem from the sale of his $575,000 home being improperly reported as income. Elected officials backing Borges for GOP chairman include Gov. John Kasich, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) and U.S. Sen. Rob Portman.
