Ohio Observes Its First Vietnam Veterans Day

Ohio observes its first Vietnam Veterans Day this week, a year after Gov. John Kasich signed a bill into law to honor veterans of the war. A week of events marks the day's first observance, including the display of a traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall replica. The replica is on display today at the Ohio History Center on 17th Avenue near Interstate 71 on the city's north side. The Ohio Department of Veterans Services says there also will be panel discussions on issues including veterans' experiences and perspectives on the war and its aftermath. A closing event at the Statehouse on Thursday will be followed by a final remembrance ceremony Friday at the center. While Vietnam Veterans Day is officially Saturday, observances are being held earlier to avoid conflicts with Easter weekend.
