The Ohio Department of Transportation has used more than 66,000 tons of salt on Central Ohio roadways this winter. O-DOTâs Breanna Watzka said thatâs almost double compared to last year. "It was a mild winter [last year]. But compared to the winter before that we used over 75,000 tons, so itâs about average.â? Watzka added thereâs about 25,000 tons of salt remaining. âWe can order more at a momentâs notice, so we are more than prepared for anything else we get this winter and then to bring us into next year.â? O-DOT has spent about $77 million statewide on salt this season.
